The $ 9 million first phase of Payne Park’s face lift is scheduled to be finished at the end of September early October !
Here are some features of the NEW Payne Park:
{NOTE : In total Payne Park is approx. 40 plus acres, who knew, it has been a vast waste land for many years after they cleared away all of the trailer homes. Presently it has been home to many Tennis players and Skate boarders….
But after October 06, 2007 ….. it will be for everyone !!!!!!
The New phase is approx. 29 acres with 17 acres of grass, two lakes, four fountains, 500 trees and 13,000 shrubs.
There will be a walking track made from a soft cushion substance, as well as trails for rollerbladers and bike riders.
Also included in phase one will be bathrooms, food vendor areas and of course the skate park’s redo. And this is just the first phase
…lots more plans for 2009 if City Commissioners approve the $ 7 million it’s phase two will need for an amphitheater, playground and remodeling of it’s Auditorium.
But for now let’s just enjoy phase one !
The City of Sarasota and the Alta Vista Neighborhood Association will host a grand opening celebration for Payne Park on October 06 starting around 2:00. There will be kites, Frisbees, skateboarding, music, face painting, clowns, food, and an outdoor movie from the Sarasota Film Festival’s Moonlight Movies.
I am on the committee for the Grand Opening celebrations so will update this blog on the details of the event as they are confirmed.
