Finally got to play this new course in Lakewood Ranch. The Esplanade Golf & Country Club is currently open for public play at a very affordable $50 before 3pm and $35 after that…including cart. This is the only new course that has been built in the Sarasota area in the last 7 years. And it will only get better with age. Sure it’s immature. But my foursome thought the greens were as good as any we play in the area. The holes around the perimeter are the highlite. That’s because the developer left in the native Florida plantings. The holes in the interior are still badly in need of trees and landscaping.
The community of Esplanade offers-maintenance free living for a planned 1,250 detached villa’s and single family homes. Situated on some 600 acres just north of State Road 70, the plan is for every home to come with a membership. No details yet on yearly fees. But the villa’s and homes start in the high $200’s.
