Waterlefe Golf & River Club

Played Waterlefe last Thursday in an intraclub match. “Survive the First Five” is the deserving motto of this course. A very challenging and picturesque track that meanders through nature preserves along the Manatee River. ( East of I75 north of SR 64 ) The course plays at 6150 yards (black’s), or 6427 yards ( blue’s)…

Legacy Golf Course at Lakewood Ranch

New week, new course. Legacy is now, officially, my favorite semi-private course in the Sarasota area…even surpassing University Park. Designed by Arnold Palmer, Legacy has sand and water on virtually every hole….not to mention grand oaks, towering pines and native grasslands. Golf Digest loves it too. It has been rated 4 1/2 stars on their…

The Ritz-Carlton Members Club

Played The Ritz-Carlton Club yesterday. Located just off Lorraine Road in Lakewood Ranch. Played from the blue/white “Members” tee’s that clock in at 6,456 yards…a happy middle ground between the too short whites ( 6,198 yards ) and the too long blues ( 6,557 yards ) for my foursome. Despite newly aerated fairways and cut…

Bradenton Country Club

I returned to one of my favorite courses yesterday…Bradenton. Founded in 1924, this is one of the oldest established clubs in our area. Located in the heart of Bradenton ( 9th Avenue West ) it’s only 15 minutes away from the beaches. Originally a Donald Ross design, but the course was re-done by Ron…

Stoneybrook Golf & Country Club, Sarasota

Played this semi-private club in Palmer Ranch on Wednesday. ( Not to be confused with Stoneybrook in Heritage Harbour, Bradenton.) This gated golf course community boasts only one 18, designed by Arthur Hills. The course winds around the neighbourhood past two story condo’s, villas and single family homes. This is a bundled community, meaning home ownership includes golf…
